The White Horse of Woden

I have always assumed that Woden rode a grey horse for it is written in the Eddas that Odin's horse Sleipnir was grey. (See Gylfaginning, translation by Anthony Faulkes). Some translations do not mention the colour of Sleipnir. I am in the process of learning Old Norse and Modern Icelandic so at some stage I will not be so dependent upon English translations of the Eddas and Sagas!

I have checked all the references to Sleipnir in both the Elder and Younger Eddas and I can only find this one reference to his colour. It needs to be born in mind though that the composition of this Edda was relatively late. Snorri Stuluson composed this work around the year 1200 CE so we cannot tell how ancient the concept of a grey Sleipnir is. We also do not know whether Snorri obtained this information from an earlier source as Sleipnir's colour is not mentioned in the Poetic/Elder Edda which was composed possibly as early as the 10th century although it is incorrectly attributed to the 12th century Icelandic priest Saemand the Learned. It is thought by scholars that the Elder Edda contains genuinely ancient material and most if not all of it would have been familiar to people in the Viking Age so it is curious that the colour of Odin's horse is not mentioned in these early poems.

What has caused me to question the colour is due to a rereading of parts of Jacob Grimm's Teutonic Mythology Volume 1:

"We are expressly told, this wild hunter Wode rides a white horse." (page 156)
"In S. Germany they tell of the lord of the castle's grazing gray (or white), Mone anz. 3, 259 ; v. infra, the 'wuetende heer'."

Grimm refers to various legends from Mecklenburg regarding the Wild Hunt whose leader is known as Wod which my readers will be aware that along with its variant Wode is the oldest name of our High God:

"A peasant was coming home tipsy one night from town, and his road led him through a wood; there he hears the wild hunt, the uproar of the hounds, and the shout of the huntsman up in the air: 'midden in den weg!' cries the voice, but he takes no notice. Suddenly out of the clouds there plunges down, right before him, a tall man on a white horse." (Teutonic Mythology Volume 3, page 924).

I will not repeat the entire story here but refer my readers to Grimm but it should be noted that the 'tall man' is referred to as Wod in the rest of the tale. However it should be noted here that Wod rode a white horse, not a gray one and I believe that this was the original colour of the horse whether it was eight legged or not (this may be a later development). Likewise the name of the horse, Sleipnir was probably a later and more northerly development. Of course whilst this information may in itself be interesting my readers will be wondering why I have posted this article. The reason for this will become clear. According to the Purana Hindu scriptures Kalki will ride a white horse and carry a blazing sword. Like Sleipnir it is a horse that is capable of riding through the air.

"Lord Kalki, the Lord of the universe, will mount His swift white horse Devadatta and, sword in hand, travel over the earth exhibiting His eight mystic opulences and eight special qualities of Godhead. Displaying His unequaled effulgence and riding with great speed, He will kill by the millions those thieves who have dared dress as kings." (Srimad-Bhagavatam (12.2.19-20)

White horses had a particular mystical significance for the Germanic peoples and were used for purposes of divination:

"Augury and divination by lot no people practise more diligently. The use of the lots is simple. A little bough is lopped off a fruit-bearing tree, and cut into small pieces; these are distinguished by certain marks, and thrown carelessly and at random over a white garment. In public questions the priest of the particular state, in private the father of the family, invokes the gods, and, with his eyes towards heaven, takes up each piece three times, and finds in them a meaning according to the mark previously impressed on them. If they prove unfavourable, there is no further consultation that day about the matter; if they sanction it, the confirmation of augury is still required. For they are also familiar with the practice of consulting the notes and the flight of birds. It is peculiar to this people to seek omens and monitions from horses. Kept at the public expense, in these same woods and groves, are white horses, pure from the taint of earthly labour; these are yoked to a sacred car, and accompanied by the priest and the king, or chief of the tribe, who note their neighings and snortings. No species of augury is more trusted, not only by the people and by the nobility, but also by the priests, who regard themselves as the ministers of the gods, and the horses as acquainted with their will. They have also another method of observing auspices, by which they seek to learn the result of an important war. Having taken, by whatever means, a prisoner from the tribe with whom they are at war, they pit him against a picked man of their own tribe, each combatant using the weapons of their country. The victory of the one or the other is accepted as an indication of the issue." (Germania 10, Tacitus, translation by Alfred John Church and William Jackson Brodribb)

As my English readers will know the English countryside in the south of the country has various chalk images cut into the sides of hills and some of these are of horses such as the Uffington Horse which is said to date back to the Bronze Age. The Westbury Horse is another example which certainly goes back to at least Saxon times. The flags of Kent and Niedersachsen in Germany feature a white horse. The chieftain brothers Hengest and Horsa likewise have names that are equine in nature. Thus the White Horse had a clear mystical importance in the culture and psyche of pre-Christian Germanic man. It was also revered by the Celtic peoples. The Goddess Rhiannon who features in the  Mabinogi, rides a 'pale' horse and She may be associated with the Gallo-Roman Epona. In Slavic mythology the God Svantovit owned an oracular white horse. In Greek mythology the God Poseidon fathered a winged white horse, Pegasus.

We should not be surprised that the horse, especially the white one was held in such high esteem as the Aryan peoples accorded a solar origin to this noble beast. Anne Ross in her Pagan Celtic Vritain (1967) points out the importance of the horse to the Indo-European peoples, having not just an economic value but was of ritual and cultic importance, frequently appearing on Celtic coins.

The book of Revelation refers to a white horse in two chapters:

"And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer." (Chapter 6, verse 2, AV)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." (Chapter 19, verse 11, AV)

It is more than clear to me that regardless of that single reference in the Younger Edda the colour of Woden's horse is white and the colour matters because this ties him in with the Kalki avatar and the figure(s) referred to in Revelation 19. However we know from the Eddas that it is not Woden Himself that is coming but His son and avatar Widar. When Widar takes His place at Ragnarok He will mount a horse and I believe that this will be the horse of His father, Woden. It makes sense for all sorts of reasons.

"O’ergrown with branches
and high grass
is Vidar’s spacious Landvidi:
There will the son descend,
from the steed’s back,
bold to avenge his father." (Grimnismal 17, Poetic Edda, translation by Benjamin Thorpe)

The Religious Symbolism of the Red and White Dragons

Those of you who are familiar with the writings of Woden's Folk will be aware of the teaching regarding the battle between two hostile dragons, usually depicted (but not always) as red and white dragons and what they symbolise. Some years ago I  completed my reading of Lady Charlotte Guest's translation of  The Mabinogion (1841) and I came across this interesting passage in the final part of the work, Taliesin.

"A coiling serpent proud and merciless, on her golden wings, from Germany. She will overrun England and Scotland, from Lychlyn sea-shore to the Severn. Then will the Brython be as prisoners, by strangers swayed, from Saxony. Their Lord they will praise, their speech they will keep, their land they will lose, except wild Walia. Till some change shall come, after long penance, when equally rife the two crimes come. Britons then shall have their land and their crown, and the stranger swarm shall disappear. All the angel's words, as to peace and war, will be fulfilled to Britain's race."

The traditional interpretation of the white dragon representing the Germanic English invader and the red dragon the Romano-British is in my opinion an over-simplification of the legend. It is clear to me that in addition to the ethnic interpretation of the two dragons there is also a much deeper religious significance. We know that the Saxon kingdom of Wessex-West Saxons, had a golden dragon banner as their symbol and this is still represented in the county flag of Wessex (an original and historical English county and kingdom). This is the "coiling serpent proud and merciless, on her golden wings from Germany." "The reference to the Britons' "Lord they will praise" implies that despite the efforts of the heathen Anglo-Saxons the conquered people will cling to their Christian god. However the Christian hope is that both Germanic heathenism and the English themselves will "disappear". This is being attempted right now with the flooding of England with unwanted alien immigrants from the four corners of the globe without a single thing being done about it. Clearly the Christianisation of the English was not only an attempt to sever our ties from our natural Germanic Gods and mythology but an attempt to destroy our folc within these islands.

The legend of Taliesin is unfortunately heavily Christianised as is the majority of The Mabinogion. The Irish mythology has largely escaped this Christian contamination and is a better guide to 'Celtic' mythology. However Welsh mythology is still useful for us to study. The legend of the red and white dragons is also contained in Llud and Llevelys, also to be found in The Mabinogion. However the actual colour of the dragons is not mentioned in this tale but it refers to "another dragon of a foreign race" (the English dragon) who is "fighting with it, and striving to overcome it" (the British dragon). Geoffrey of Monmouth and Nennius also relate this story and Nennius in particular places this struggle between the two dragons at the time of the coming of the English (or as some of us prefer, the return of the English) to England at the time of Vortigern, the weak British king. Giraldus Cambrensis locates these events "At the head of the Snowdon Mountains". In recent years (largely due to the efforts of Woden's Folk) the white dragon of the English has experienced an awakening of sorts in the Collective Unconscious or Blood Memory of the English people who are an Aryan Germanic folc. We must continue in our efforts to promote this symbolism in our work as it clearly has a significance for the end of the age events being worked out in this island today.

Woden, a God of Frenzy and Divine Madness

A study of Old English words containing the element wod can prove illuminating when considering the character of our High Lord Woden. For this article I have relied mainly upon J.R. Clarke Hall's excellent A Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary.Words indicative of madness and frenzy contain this element:

wodendream-madness.
wod-frec-madly ravenous.
wodheortnes-madness.
wodlic-foolish, mad, furious (as an adverb wodlice it also means madly, furiously, blasphemously).
wodnes-madness, frenzy, folly.
wodscipe-insanity.
wodseoc-mad.
wodthrag-paroxysm, madness, fury.
wed-fury, rage, foolishness, madness.
wedan-to be or become mad, rage.

It is interesting to note that whilst all of the above words are indicative of connotations of madness, frenzy, fury and folly the adverb wodlice can also mean 'blasphemously'. I believe the reason for this unusual meaning is one of distortion by Christian clerics who by demonising Woden associated the adverb woodlice with blasphemy but this I contend was not an original meaning as the concept of blasphemy is both Christian and unGermanic and should really be disregarded for the purpose of this study but it is interesting to note nonetheless.

The God Odin is often associated with the intellect, with the left side of the brain but it is more than clear that our Woden is primarily associated with the right side of the brain which is concerned with the creative elements of the brain and the Unconscious. I believe that it is in the light of this that we must approach Woden, not with the intellect but with the so-called irrational, the Unconscious, with the dream state. It is only when we abandon our 20th and 21st century rationalism can we hope to find and indeed approach this God. This is why it never ceases to surprise me when our enemies try to defame us by labelling us as 'mentally ill'; they demonstrate most clearly that they have not the slightest understanding of Woden or for that matter of us!

By contrast with Woden, Odr although derived from *wodaz has the meaning of mind, wit, soul and sense, more indicative of the left side functions of the brain. The OHG wuoti (madness) derives from the Proto-Germanic *wodin which in turn derives from *wodaz. The Middle Dutch woet has the meaning of madness. The Old Saxon wodian also means to rage as does the OHG wuoten with the added meaning of to be insane.

In order that we may draw closer to our Woden we must consider much more than ever before that we embrace the irrational for that which appears to be irrational to modern man is in fact the true and genuine state of Germanic man which has been suppressed by the Christian churches and repressed by Germanic man himself. Through this mindset we will be able to connect with numinous beings and with the Gods themselves.

Parjanya, the Original Indra

The typological links between *Thunaraz and Indra are well known and I have discussed these several times on my blogs but what is less well known is the connection between *Thunaraz and Parjanya who may be a separate deity from Indra or perhaps a hypostasis. Like Indra He is referred to in the Rig Veda and He is clearly a God who brings the life-giving rain:

1. SING with these songs thy welcome to the Mighty, with adoration praise and call Parjanya.
The Bull, loud roaring, swift to send his bounty, lays in the plants the seed. for germination.
2 He smites the trees apart, he slays the demons: all life fears him who wields the mighty weapon.
From him exceeding strong fices e’en the guiltless, when thundering Parjanya smites the wicked.
3 Like a car-driver whipping on his horses, he makes the messengers of rain spring forward.
Far off resounds the roaring of the lion, what time Parjanya fills the sky with rain-cloud.
4 Forth burst the winds, down come the lightning-flashes: the plants shoot up, the realm of light is streaming.
Food springs abundant for all living creatures, what time Parjanya quickens earth with moisture.
5 Thou at whose bidding earth bows low before thee, at whose command hoofed cattle fly in terror,
At whose behest the plants assume all colours, even thou Parjanya, yield us great protection.
6 Send down for us the rain of heaven, ye Maruts, and let the Stallion's flood descend in torrents.
Come hither with this thunder while thou pourest the waters down, our heavenly Lord and Father.
7 Thunder and roar: the germ of life deposit. Fly round us on thy chariot waterladen.
Thine opened water-skin draw with thee downward, and let the hollows and the heights be level.
8 Lift up the mighty vessel, pour down water, and let the liberated streams rush forward.
Saturate both the earth and heaven with fatness, and for the cows let there be drink abundant.
9 When thou, with thunder and with roar, Parjanya, smitest sinners down,
This universe exults thereat, yea, all that is upon the earth.
10 Thou hast poured down the rain-flood now withhold it. Thou hast made desert places fit for travel.
Thou hast made herbs to grow for our enjoyment: yea, thou hast won thee praise from living creatures. (Book 5, Hymn 83, translation by Ralph T.H. Griffith)

Parjanya is described as 'thundering' and a slayer of 'demons'. Both Parjanya and Indra are called a bull in the Rig Veda. Both Gods are also associated with the chariot in common with other Indo-European thunder deities. Wendy Doniger O'Flaherty in her translation points out that only 3 hymns are devoted to Parjanya. However to the best of my knowledge only 2 are devoted to this God. Her reference to Book 10, Hymn 168 is concerned with the God Vayu according to Griffith's translation. Which of the two scholars is correct I am unable to comment.

1 SPEAK forth three words, the words which light precedeth, which milk this udder that produceth nectar.
Quickly made manifest, the Bull hath bellowed, engendering the germ of plants, the Infant.
2 Giver of growth to plants, the God who ruleth over the waters and all moving creatures,
Vouchsafe us triple shelter for our refuge, and threefold light to succour and befriend us.
3 Now he is sterile, now begetteth offspring, even as he willeth doth he change his figure.
The Father's genial flow bedews the Mother; therewith the Sire, therewith the son is nourished.
4 In him all living creatures have their being, and the three heavens with triply-flowing waters.
Three reservoirs that sprinkle down their treasure shed their sweet streams around him with a murmur.
5 May this my song to Sovran Lord Parjanya come near unto his heart and give him pleasure.
May we obtain the showers that bring enjoyment, and God-protected plants with goodly fruitage.
6 He is the Bull of all, and their impregner: he holds the life of all things fixed and moving.
May this rite save me till my hundredth autumn. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings. (Book 7, Hymn 101, Griffith)

Again in Hymn 101 Parjanya is called a bull. It is difficult to discern any difference at all between Him and Indra.

1. O THE Wind's chariot, O its power and glory! Crashing it goes and hath a voice of thunder.
It makes the regions red and touches heaven, and as it moves the dust of earth is scattered.
2 Along the traces of the Wind they hurry, they come to him as dames to an assembly.
Borne on his car with these for his attendants, the God speeds forth, the universe's Monarch.
3 Travelling on the paths of air's mid-region, no single day doth he take rest or slumber.
Holy and earliest-born, Friend of the waters, where did he spring and from what region came he?
4 Germ of the world, the Deities’ vital spirit, this God moves ever as his will inclines him.
His voice is heard, his shape is ever viewless. Let us adore this Wind with our oblation. (Book 10, Hymn 168, Griffith)

As well as exhibiting the typical traits of the Thunder God Parjanya is also cognate with the Baltic Perkunas and the Slavic Perun. It is my opinion that He is a much older deity than the more popular and powerful Indra but even at the time of the Rig Veda He is still recognised as a deity but one that is very much in Indra's shadow. His name indicates His great antiquity for it is directly cognate with the original Proto-Indo-European *Perkwunos. In the first of these free hymns He is personified as a bull, in the second as a cow and in the third as a gale wind. Like Indra He is said to fight against demons:

"He smites the trees apart, he slays the demons: all life fears him who wields the mighty weapon. From him exceeding strong fices e'en the guiltless, when thundering Parjanya smites the wicked." (Ralp T.H. Griffith's translation)

Like both *Thunaraz and Indra He drives a chariot:

"O THE Wind's chariot, O its power and glory! Crashing it goes forth and hath a voice of thunder."(Griffith)

Interestingly Donniger O'Flaherty in her translation ascribes this hymn to Parjanya whilst Griffith ascribes it to Vayu! The seed of Parjanya is obviously the life-giving rain. His name indicates His great antiquity for He is directly cognate with the original Proto-Indo-European Language.

The Deliberate Disntegration of the Aryan Caste System

The Aryan caste system is to be found throughout the ancient world in all Indo-European societies and in its original and pure form is tripartite in nature, a reflection of the tripartite division of the divine functions of the Gods. This tripartite caste system can be found in the Indo-Iranian, Latin, Umbrian, Germanic, Slavic, Baltic, Celtic, Hittite, Armenian, Indian, Iranian and Greek pantheons. The division of these societies into a tripartite functional system is a reflection of the divine; 'as above, so below'. In other words the macrocosm is reflected in the microcosm, an important tenet of sacred geometry and hermeticism. In the same way our sacred rites reflect events that have occurred long ago in the actions of our Gods in creating the cosmos and the 9 worlds.

The caste system in human Aryan society survived for thousands of years until the approach of the Kali Yuga when it started to break down and today we see a mere echo of this in the present day caste system of India. The 'class' system of the western world is but a bastardised version of the caste system but this should not surprise us as uniformity and lack of differentiation are key components of the dark age in which we find ourselves. Whilst the caste system was based upon divine principles and initiated by the Gods, the class system is based purely upon economics and is entirely materialist in nature, no more so than in the United States which is the epitome of this and a materialist way of life. Whatever occurs in that country eventually finds its way to Europe and infects everything like a plague.

By opposing materialism and not succumbing to its life denying teachings we take a stand against the dark forces which oppose the Gods. A spiritual war is being fought in other dimensions by beings whose power we can only imagine but here in Midgarth we can and must also participate in this war, which more than anything is a war fought over ideas and concepts for only an idea can revitalise or destroy a people. The idea which we oppose is that all things in life have a purely materialist explanation and cause. Whether it is crime, disease or chaos in society a materialist and by extension an economic explanation is tendered when in reality the origin and cause is to be found in the spiritual world. Let me offer one example of what I am talking about. In 2016 in the months preceding the European Union referendum in the United Kingdom the arguments for and against leaving were primarily expressed in materialist and economic terms. Statisticians for both camps were falling over themselves in providing projections on the costs and benefits of leaving or remaining as part of the European Union. Arguments regarding sovereignity and identity were rarely expressed and I suspect part of the reason for this was the fear of being branded 'racist', a term which was particularly thrown around by the 'remain' camp at all those who advocated leaving. There was also a presumption by the leaders of both camps that the mass population was driven primarily by materialistic and economic concerns and drives; thus the argument eventually boiled down to pure economics in the undignified scramble for votes. In truth to a certain extent they were correct: many people are purely or primarily materialistic with no concept of the spiritual world or a spiritual life, who live like the beasts of the field with no aspirations beyond their immediate bodily gratifications, the genetic robots spoken of by Miguel Serrano. These human cattle by and large lack the potential for any degree of spiritual development for they are the genetic product of decades of involutionary and indiscriminatory breeding. Cardboard cut-outs of men, one dimentional with no soul. This is the golem which is spoken of in Jewish folklore; beast men with no soul who are created and thus controlled by their master, the New World Order.

The great Aryan mystic Tolkien knew of the golem and introduced the concept as a character in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This is why the Aryan caste system had to break down and even now the liberal elite are still not satisfied but continue to agitate for the final collapse of the caste system in India. By contrast the Aryan is not a product of indiscriminate breeding but of a caste system which was concerned not only with the division of function but the preservation and improvement of the caste. The unfit were not allowed to breathe beyond their day of birth and no father in his right mind would countenance his son or daughter marrying a person with a significant defect. These days in this so-called 'enlightened' age it is considered almost a virtue for defective babies to be permitted to live and even eventually to breed, thus producing more defective humans and an ever greater burden upon the folk. It is a contradiction in modern man that on one level he considers humanity to be merely a part of the animal kingdom and yet talks about human dignity, a dignity not extended to other animals. He sees no contradiction in this dichotomy! A farmer or breeder worth his salt would not permit his finest stock to mate with unsuitable partners so why then should not mankind apply the same logic to the species of man? The truth of the matter is the NWO via the educational establishment, the media and the 'entertainment' industry which it controls in western countries, presents indiscriminate breeding and miscegenation as the norm and even as positive and desirable. For those of us who have educated ourselves in the history and culture of the traditional Aryan world we find this to be anything but the 'norm' but an aberration and a means of biological suicide; something that is intended for no peoples other than the Aryan!

One of the ways in which the enemy of tradition has attacked the caste system is by inculcating materialist and selfish aspirations in the 'mind' of the herd. It is no longer considered good enough for men to follow the occupation of their father but to 'follow their dreams' and these hollow 'dreams' seem to centre on the accumulation of yet more things, manufactured by the very people that have sold them this lie. The traditional Aryan world knew no such ridiculous notion. Man as part of a caste, something bigger than himself, sought fulfilment in the activity and function of his caste, whether he be priest, warrior or farmer. The forces of anti-tradition however have applied a monetary value to activity and calls this 'work' and man no longer has activity as a self-fulfilling occupation but a 'job'. He has become enslaved to market forces which have dictated to him that he must aspire to acquire yet more manufactured things in the false belief that he will find an illusory 'fulfilment' in this never ending consumption. I believe that this is what they refer to in North America as the 'American Dream' which predictably has become a nightmare but nevertheless the NWO would seek to export this life-denying concept to the 'Old World'. One of the faulty building blocks of the 'American Dream' is the notion of 'upward mobility', a concept exported to England in the 1980s and the idiots who swallowed that lie were known as 'yuppies'. By contrast the Aryan caste system had no concept of 'mobility', upwards or downwards for the caste system represented a form of stability and in microcosm was a representation of the divine order. One must therefore view concepts of 'social mobility' as being contrary to the will and the order that the Gods have established in the Aryan world.

Consequently man is adrift with no roots, casteless, raceless and increasingly genderless! This is entirely in keeping with the kind of world that the death dealers of the NWO would have in place. The elite top 1% of the top 1% (in other words the top 0.01 %) need a raceless, sexless and rootless humanity as it is easier and more profitable for them to sell their shoddy goods to such a base mankind. Furthermore there is a malevolence attached to this for they seek in the process the final elimination of the Overman, the Aryan, the only being in this dimension capable of effectively exposing and opposing them. Part of the 'American Dream' or in reality now the 'Western Dream/Nightmare' is the concept of 'work' but not work in a meaningful and fulfilling sense but meaningless activity concerned with the overproduction of tat to be sold to the herd who have been conditioned into believing that they must acquire these things in order to achieve 'meaning' and 'purpose'! By contrast 'work' in the sense that modern man gives it was considered an anathema by the ancient Aryan world. An alternative word for 'work' or 'job' is 'career', a term more favoured by the mercantile classes. This dark age, this age of lead is an age of serfs, of the Underman:

Indeed work has become such a primary and motivating factor that western governments wish to discourage people from retiring by abolishing compulsory retirement in the UK and conditioning the serfs into thinking that they could and should continue to work well past the beginning of old age, preferably until they die of exhaustion. That way they avoid paying pensions and they have more robots to slave for corporations, keeping competition for jobs high and wages low. A man who does not have a 'job' has more time to think, a dangerous activity in the 'West' today! By contrast a man who 'works' at minimum wage is little more than a serf who is bonded to the NWO, terrified of the consequences of voicing opposition to it in case he loses his servitude! In truth the serf has nothing to lose than his chains for it is a psychological prison of his own making. The NWO has conditioned modern man into becoming his own internal policeman, accuser, judge, jury and jailer. Fear imprisons man and subjugates him.

Everything in the Kali Yuga has become debased; the spiritual outlook of Aryan man has been replaced with materialistic and purely human impulses. The warrior of the past has now become a waged soldier. In the past the activity of war was the preserve of a specific caste who found spiritual fulfilment in its activity. Now in the era of the raceless and the sexless all are welcome to fight for the NWO whose armies now allow even women amongst their ranks of combatants so long as they do not question orders and fight without a higher cause in mind. Let us not mince our words here: the purpose of the armies of the 'West' are not primarily concerned with the protection of the population. Their role is to enforce the agenda of the NWO. Likewise let us be under no illusion about the police forces of the 'West', whose primary purpose is not the protection of the population but its subjugation and repression. Indeed the police have become a paramilitary force who are more concerned with the enforcement of political correctness and policing social media to ensure that racial 'minorities' are not offended than combatting real crime which has become a distraction for them. Now I am not suggesting that everyone who is a policeman or a soldier is a bad egg, far from it but they serve a repressive regime and they do not (unlike the warrior caste of the Aryan past) serve a higher cause. This is not their individual fault; it is merely a sign of the age in which we live.

Thor's Hammers Found Outside of the Scandinavian Cultural Area

There is a general mistaken belief amongst heathens and academics that the widespread wearing of Thor's Hammer amulets began in Scandinavia as a consequence of the aggressive spread of Christianity through northern Europe. I have commented before on earlier blogs that just because this practise became more common in a certain time (Viking Age) and in a certain place (Scandinavia) it is not an explanation for its origins.

One blogger called Sven writing in an interesting article Early Thor's Hammer Pendants Outside Scandinavia draws our attention to the existence of hammer amulets outside of Scandinavia and before the Viking Age such as Kneitlingen and Warendorf in 8th century Germany. The most interesting example that he gives is the hammer found in Ditmarschen on the North Sea coast and dated to between the 8th and 9th centuries. It bears a striking resemblance to the Thor's Hammer from Laby in Uppsala in Sweden. This for me is the classic Thor's Hammer design for it shows a clear metamorphosis from the axe which preceded it. I have discussed before on early blogs how Thunor's Hammer originally took the form of an axe before it developed into its hammer shape. Furthermore the original thunder weapon was constructed not of iron but of stone.

"se thunor hit thryscedh mid thaere fyrenan aecxe." (Dialogue of Solomon and Saturn)

The above quoted Old English sentence may be translated as 'Thunor threshes with his fiery axe'. The Anglo-Saxon and thus Old Saxon interpretation of the Norse Thor is of greater antiquity and the same must be said for His thunder weapon which has its origins in the Neolithic Age and representations of the Indo-European thunder axe symbol may be found even today on Stonehenge. It should be noted that phases 2 and 3 of Stonehenge are the product of Indo-European civilisation. I am thus of the opinion that the Ditmarschen/Laby Thor's Hammer is of greater stylistic antiquity than most of the others. Generally speaking the more simplistic the design of the hammer the greater is its antiquity.

There are references to Thunor's axe in our folklore:

"It is well known in England, and also in Germany, that no witch can step over a besom laid along the threshold of the house door on the inside. She will kick it or push it aside before she can enter your house, and by this token you may know her for what she is.  An axe (Thor's weapon) and a broom are laid crosswise on the innerside of the threshold over which the nurse has to step when she goes out with an infant to have it christened. This is done that the babe may be safe from all the devices of the powers of evil." (Curiosities of Indo-European Tradition and Folklore, Walter Keating Kelly, 1863)

"As Indra used to milk the cloud cows and churn the milk lakes and fountains with a thunderbolt , so did Thor. The German god's fiery weapon was often represented as an axe, and hence it is a customary thing with witches to draw milk from the handle of an axe stuck in a doorpost." (Kelly)

In Scandinavian Mythology (1969) H.R. Ellis Davidson states that "Thor's symbol in the Viking age was both an axe and a hammer." In Dictionary of Northern Mythology (1984) Rudolf Simek points out that the "Germanic axe cult" was of great antiquity and that the weapons of Indra, Hercules and the Gaulish Sucellos "all suggest an Indo-Germanic origin of the various forms of the axe." Indeed the axe remained the weapon of choice for Thunor's Slavic and Baltic equivalents.

Sven refers to the hammers found in the graves of two Anglo-Saxon women buried in Gilton in Kent during the 6th century. He does cast some doubt on whether they can be regarded as Thor's Hammers-or more correctly Thunor's Hammers, saying that their design may originate from amongst the Christian Merovingians. However I cannot agree with this suggestion. It is abundantly clear that the hammers do in fact represent long handled Thunor's Hammers. Many hammers found in Scandinavia do incorporate a long handled design. Furthermore if one examines these hammers carefully one will observe that they contain ring and dot designs which is quite common with Thor's Hammers and may symbolise hailstones. Along with hammer amulets spear amulets were excavated also, a clear indication that these amulets have their origins in pre-Christian Germanic religion.

It should come as no surprise that the Frisians also wore hammer amulets. Sven refers in his blog article to one found in Nebel on a North Frisian island, Amrum. It is a long handled iron hammer, excavated from a woman's grave. There is a dearth of information on archaeological finds of hammers and I had to really did just to find the blog post by Sven.

Odin's Mountain-Roseberry Topping

Over recent weeks my thoughts have lingered on the image of a large hill in the Cleveland area of the North Yorkshire Moors; Roseberry Topping. About 15 years ago I carried out a series of rites in the company of a folk comrade from Woden's Folk, dedicating or more accurately rededicating the hill to Woden. Over recent weeks I have come to the conclusion that this hill should carry a much greater spiritual significance for those of us who are heathens than it currently does.

Roseberry Topping is of sandstone formation and dates back to the Middle and Lower Jurassic periods which are reckoned to be between 208 and 165,000,000 years ago. The top of the hill is very distinctive with a conical shape or cap which is said to protect the underlying clays from the effects of erosion by the weather. It is said that from the top of the hill one has views of the surrounding countryside for up to 50 miles, seeing the nearby Cleveland hills and even the Pennines in the west. Having climbed to the summit I can confirm that this is indeed true! Pragya Vohra in the Introduction to The Vikings in Cleveland (Edited by Heather O' Donoghue and Pragya Vohra, published by the University of Nottingham, 2014) describes the top of the hill as "a volcano-shaped outlier of the Cleveland hills". This is the best and most succinct description of its summit in my opinion.

We know from the etymology of the name of the hill that it was indeed sacred during the time of the Danelaw from the 9th century onwards. According to Eleanor Rye (The Vikings in Cleveland) the name of the hill was first attested in the 12th century and was known as Othenesberg and Ohensberg and she suggests that these two names indicate that its Old Norse original name was Odins berg. This has the obvious English meaning of 'Odin's mountain'. Please note that the Old Norse letter 'eth' would have been used in the Old Norse, not the English letter 'd' but I am limited by my keyboard! Eleanor Rye also mentions  Onsbjerg on the Danish island of Samso, recorded as Othensberg in the 15th century which appears to confirm the etymological assumptions. J.C. Atkinson writing in The Journal of the Ethnological Society of London (1869-1870), volume 2, no. 3, pages 351-366) finds the following variations of the name between 1119 and 1540-Otneberch, Ohtnebereg, Othenbruche, Othenesbergh, Ornbach, Ounsbery, Onesbergh, Hensberg, Hogtenberg, Thuerbrugh and Thuerbrught.

Close to Roseberry Topping is the village Newton under Roseberry in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire. As an aside the church of St. Oswald in the village has a rather interesting Anglo-Saxon carving featuring two apparently mythical creatures. The name of the village would originally have been Newton under Ounsbery. The rather unusual term 'Topping' features in the dialect of both Yorkshire and Lancashire for hill names. It is believed that Roseberry Topping is the only known example of a hill or mountain in England containing the name of Odin. However there is also an Anglo-Saxon cognate in Woodnesborough, a village in East Kent, two miles to the west of Sandwich. It is first attested in the Domesday Book in 1086 with the name Golles-Wanesberge. Around the year 1100 the name was recorded as Wodnesbeorge and in 1484 it appears as Wodnesbergh. The Old English reconstruction of the name would have been Wodnesburh, the hill or mound of Woden. (See A Dictionary of English Place-Names by A.D. Mills (Oxford University Press).)

Roseberry Topping is close to the north-eastern boundary of the Danelaw and the Anglian kingdom of Northumbria and it would have been visible to the Vikings as they sailed up and down the river Tees and must have had an awe-inspiring effect upon their imagination. The river Tees it must be pointed out is the boundary between my county of birth-Durham on the north bank and the North Riding of Yorkshire on the south bank. Despite the river being an ancient boundary the people of South Durham and the North Riding have a great deal in common and this commonality has in recent years been recognised by the creation of the 'Tees Valley', a 'city region' administered by the Tees Valley Combined Authority which consists of five unitary authorities: Darlington (County Durham), Stockton on Tees (County Durham), Hartlepool (County Durham), Middlesbrough (North Yorkshire) and Redcar and Cleveland (North Yorkshire). Interestingly the unitary authority of Stockton-on-Tees includes land south of the river in North Yorkshire-Thornaby on Tees, Yarm and Ingleby Barwick. The Tees Valley is part of the North East Region of England and has its own airport-Durham Tees Valley, previously known as Teesside Airport and is due to revert to its former name. It is situated just outside of Darlington.

The ancient county of Yorkshire is divided into three 'Ridings' and this is a curious expression which likewise dates back to the Danelaw. The renowned scholar Jesse L. Byock writing in his Viking Language 1 (page 25, 2013, Jules William Press) reveals that the term 'Riding' derives from the Old Norse thridjungr which means the 'third part of an assembly'. It can also be used to describe a geographical region. The Old Norse term was adopted into Old English as thriding. In Modern English the 'th' has been dropped. Once again it should be noted that the Old English/Old Norse letter 'thorn' rather than 'th' is the correct spelling and likewise the 'd' in thriding has been substituted for the Old Norse 'eth'!

It is my hope that the sacred Odinic associations of Roseberry Topping become more recognised by the heathen community and that it should in time have a similar status that Waylands Smithy has in the folklore and mythology of Woden's Folk. Both places should in my opinion be considered 'sacred centres' for our Wodenist community, Roseberry Topping having a particular significance for the Woden's Folk Community of the north of England, the Danelaw part of England.

Swedish Government Considering a Complete Ban on all Germanic Symbols

When I launched this new blog a few months ago it was with the intention of avoiding the discussion of politics as my previous blogs were more often than not branded by my enemies in this way. However on this occasion I have decided to break my 'golden rule' as the subject matter goes beyond politics. I am indebted to my good friend and folk comrade Runebinder in drawing our attention to this recent article on the RT website: Swedes up in arms as government mulls potential ban on ancient 'Nazi' runes The relevant post on Rune Binder's blog-https://volkisch-runes.blogspot.com/2019/05/some-of-you-may-have-seen-various.html

When I read this news report at first I did not believe it; as Runebinder points out the Swedish government is not just simply considering a partial ban on specific Germanic symbols that could be linked to National Socialism but an entire ban on the Germanic symbolism of the Swedish people. This is blatant cultural Marxism and once again we see examples of self-hatred manifesting itself amongst the co-called and self-appointed Swedish 'intelligentsia' (if only some of them HAD a modicum of 'intelligence'!) and political elite. As some of my American readers would say the Swedes are 'cucked' and for once I support the use of an 'Americanism' because I cannot conceive of a more appropriate and succinct adjective to describe what is obviously a manifestation of a deep rooted psychosis.

Any legislation that would ban the use and display of the runes and even the hammer of Thor would severely impact upon those who follow the pre-Christian heathen Germanic religion and the promotion of that religion. It could effectively outlaw the ancestral religion of the Swedish people. Indeed it goes further than even this. If the government get their way the indigenous Swedish people, regardless of their individual religious beliefs and affiliations would be robbed of their history, culture and even their very identity. The Marxist political elite realise that a Sweden with a Germanic past is not a 'multi-cultural' or 'multi-racial' Sweden and as in Orwell's Ninteen Eightyfour the past must be erased and rewritten. This is truly Orwellian in its intensions and must be resisted by the Swedish people through any non-violent means possible whether those means be legal or not. When a government ceases to have the interests of its indigenous population at heart then it must be challenged and removed by the people as one would remove any form of tyranny.
